OFFICE OF ACADEMIC ADVISING FUNDS
Academic Advising General Support
This fund is used to support student initiatives and needs pertaining to advising and academics for undergraduate students at Rice.
Dr. York Lancaster Merit Award Endowment
The York Lancaster Merit Award is given to a premedical student after completion of their first full year at Rice and is based on academic performance and interest in pursuing medical school. This award is restricted to students who attended a Texas high school, who are not receiving a full tuition or book scholarship, and have completed six hours of math/science in their first year. The award honors physician, surgeon, and Rice alumnus, Dr. York Lancaster.
John P. McGovern Outstanding Premedical Student Award Endowment
The McGovern Award is given annually to an outstanding health professions student(s) to recognize scholarship and leadership. These qualities made Dr. McGovern one of the outstanding leaders in the field of medicine, and serves as an example for our premedical students to emulate.
Dr. and Mrs. David M. Mumford Award Endowment
The Mumford Award is given annually to outstanding health profession student(s) to recognize not only scholarship, but also the characteristics of integrity, compassion, leadership, service, and intellectual curiosity—the same qualities that have distinguished Dr. and Mrs. Mumford’s lives and Dr. Mumford’s medical career.

This fund helps support the robust Peer Academic Advising (PAA) program here at Rice. The PAAs serve their respective residential college communities by providing peer advice to fellow students about a wide range of academically related topics.
Pre-Health Student Fund
This fund helps Rice students preparing for a career in the health professions. This includes funding for test preparation materials and fees, application fees, interview attire, and interview travel and accommodations.
