Dr. H. Albert Napier, Jr., retired in 2017 as Professor of Entrepreneurship and Professor Emeritus of Management at Rice Business. A beloved teacher, advisor and friend, Al joined Professor Ed Williams to build the No. 1 entrepreneurship program in the country, a title it’s held for three years running and top 10 for over a decade.
In 2016, Ed and Al received the prestigious National Teaching Award from the U.S. Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship as National Educators of the Year. Three years later, the inaugural H. Albert Napier Rice Launch Challenge continued Al's legacy of entrepreneurship by sponsoring a business plan competition that has grown to 84 teams competing for different prize levels.
In May 2022, Al will be recognized with the Rice Laureate Meritorious Award from the Association of Rice Alumni. He believed one way for humanity to create a better world was through the creative endeavors of entrepreneurship. In memoriam contributions will ensure Al's spirit and teachings continue to thrive.
