The Center for the Impossible is housed at Rice University’s Woodson Research Center in Fondren Library. Born of Jeffrey Kripal’s Archives of the Impossible, we are carrying the archive’s vision forward — from collections into conversations, and preservation into possibility.
The center positions Rice University as a convener across disciplines, modeling a bold new vision for higher education — one that embraces anomalous phenomena, expanded states of consciousness and the possibility of intelligence beyond our own.
The Center for the Impossible is a future-facing prototype of the “superhumanities”: an intellectual and cultural project exploring the mutating nature of human perception and the ways in which extraordinary experiences invite us to rethink the very nature of reality itself. At heart, we are a laboratory for new ways of knowing — where the boundaries of human understanding are not just studied, but expanded into a living ecosystem of the Impossible.
Every gift, no matter how small or large, makes the impossible possible.
Whether you choose to support us through an annual gift, by establishing an endowment for the Center, or funding our operating budget, every dollar counts. If you would like more information or are interested in discussing how you can make a non-cash gift, please contact Karin Austin, Director of the Center for the Impossible at ka67@rice.edu.
