Thank you for your interest in supporting the Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry (OURI). OURI provides centralized support for faculty to develop and implement research-rich curricula and to offer mentored opportunities in undergraduate research, design, and creative work. The office works in collaboration with academic departments to increase undergraduate research support, enable more transparent and equitable distribution of resources, and contribute to Rice’s goal of fostering an inclusive undergraduate academic culture. A gift of any amount will enhance OURI’s impact on our students and faculty.
A gift to the Rice Undergraduate Research Symposium (RURS) will support the annual public symposium that is the premiere at which undergraduates across all disciplines present their research projects, receive feedback from faculty and industry experts, and enjoy recognition for their efforts.
A gift to the Sustaining Excellence in Research (SER) Scholar Gift Fund will support freshman and sophomore students in the STEM disciplines who are invited to participate in the SER Scholars Program, based on a constellation of factors relevant to the student’s academic preparation for the science and engineering course work at Rice. Students who participate in the program receive support to achieve academic excellence. They attend regular mentoring meetings with program staff, and are paired with faculty mentors to work on research projects that allow them to gain and apply skills in their chosen fields.
A gift to the Summer Undergraduate Research Fund (SURF) will provide support for stipends for freshmen and sophomores, who are seeking a first or other early career research opportunity, to conduct summer research with a Rice faculty mentor.
A gift to the Jenessa Shapiro Rice Undergraduate Research Symposium Award will provide permanent support for an award (or awards) to the Rice Undergraduate Research Symposium (RURS) presenter/s who embody the ideals of the scientific enterprise (curiosity, ingenuity, creativity, and hard work) exhibited by Dr. Shapiro throughout her career at Rice.
