Rice Business Partners' Faculty Roundtable Luncheon with Prof. Minjae Kim

Please join Rice Business Partners on Wednesday, October 23rd, for a roundtable discussion with Minjae Kim, Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior and Sociology, and his fresh perspective on misinformation and its role in American politics. We often assume people support misinformation because they mistakenly believe such factually incorrect claims as factual, leading us to focus on "fact-checking" to counter gullibility. However, Prof. Kim's research shows that American voters from both major political parties sometimes support misinformation knowingly. They prioritize misinformation that aligns with a "deeper truth" through a partisan lens, viewing it as serving "American priorities" (as they see them). Surveys reveal that both Democratic and Republican voters recognize some misinformation as factually incorrect yet still endorse it based on their moral flexibility, highlighting that addressing misinformation may require not just fact-checking but also the moral framing of information in contemporary politics.

This event is open to all Rice Business students, alumni, Rice Business Partner members, and guests. The registration will close at 5 p.m. CT on Monday, October 21, 2024.
