A Message From Dean Gorman

Dear Parents and Families,

The past few months on campus have been eventful and full of energy as students navigate their spring courses and engage with many academic and social opportunities. With spring break right around the corner, many Owls are looking forward to a break in classwork – whether that involves participating in an externship or research opportunity or taking time to recharge and reconnect with family. As always, our office is here to provide a range of supports to ensure your students get the most out of their Rice education.

As part of our commitment to an unparalleled undergraduate experience, I am excited to announce the launch of the Ross Rankin Moody Opportunity Fund, supported by the Moody Foundation’s historic gift to the university. This program is administered by the Office of Student Success Initiatives and is designed to financially assist undergraduate students seeking funds for co-curricular opportunities related to their academic and professional development. This includes study abroad programs, research opportunities, and a range of experiences outside of the classroom that are integral to a well-rounded education. I encourage all to apply. It is a competitive application process, and those selected can receive up to $2,500 in funding to explore exciting pursuits beyond their coursework. New applications for the fall and winter will be accepted until the first of October. You can learn more about the fund and the application process here.

I am grateful for the Moody Foundation’s generosity, which continues to support meaningful student resources, like the Moody Opportunity Fund. I look forward to seeing what our Owls can accomplish both on campus and beyond the hedges.

Sending my best wishes,

Bridget Gorman, Dean of Undergraduates
