9:00 am CST — Webinar

Decarbonization is the moonshot of our generation, and Mitsubishi Power is working to realize this vision. Companies and governments all across the globe have committed to net-zero emissions by 2050 as well alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The question is: how do we get there? We know that the intermittency of renewable energy sources means that multiple strategies must be taken. Energy storage is key to achieving these goals. Lithium ion batteries will undoubtedly be part of the short-duration storage solution; and green hydrogen will be important to unlocking long-duration storage to bridge the gap. The answer to decarbonization comes down to creating long-term energy storage systems with the capacity to store excess renewable power for days, months and even seasons. The challenge will be to devise systems and policy frameworks that enable the critical goals of energy security, environmental and social sustainability, and affordability and access, while the energy sector undergoes a fundamental transition.

Rachel A. Meidl, fellow in energy and environment, and Paul F. Browning, president and chief executive officer of Mitsubishi Power Americas, will discuss energy storage and green hydrogen’s role in meeting these bold commitments by 2050, as well as the steps that need to be taken between now and then to make this vision a reality.

This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Energy Studies and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group.
