Rice continues to rank among nation’s top universities |

For the fourth year in a row, Rice University ranks No. 1 in the nation for the best race/class interaction, according to student surveys for the Princeton Review’s 2019 edition of “The Best 384 Colleges.” Rice is ranked in the top 20 in 13 categories, the most ever for the university, including No. 2 for best quality of life, No. 3 for best college newspaper and No. 5 for happiest students.

Annual Houston Area Survey results revealed |

The 38th annual Kinder Houston Area Survey was released last week at the Kinder Institute luncheon at the Marriott Marquis in downtown Houston. The main takeaway: Houston-area residents’ opinion on the idea of increasing public school funding has shifted significantly over the last quarter century, according to analysis presented in the 2019 survey.

Rice Magazine: New issue, new look |

Rice Magazine got a makeover! Just over a year ago, the magazine we all know and love underwent a redesign process with an emphasis on capturing “the vibrancy of today’s student learning environment, the curiosity that drives our faculty’s research and creative pursuits and the always interesting lives of Rice alumni,” wrote senior editor Lynn Gosnell. The Spring 2019 issue reflects those changes, which includes a simplified structure and brand new aesthetic.

Following one of the greatest seasons in program history, Rice University Director of Athletics Joe Karlgaard announced on May 16 that women's basketball head coach Tina Langley has agreed to a new five-year contract that will run through the 2024 season.

The Rice School of Architecture has announced a lead gift from longtime professor William Cannady for the construction of Cannady Hall, an annex to the school's current home. The school named Karamuk Kuo as architect.

Computer Science professor to receive Brown Prize, Rice’s top teaching award |

Rice alumni have selected Luay Nakhleh for the George R. Brown Prize for Excellence in Teaching. The Brown Prize, Rice’s highest teaching award, is given annually based upon a survey of alumni who graduated within the past two to five years. “I cannot imagine myself being in a job where I cannot teach,” he said.
