A Message from Dean of Undergraduates Bridget Gorman
|
As we begin another exciting year at Rice, I want to share a heartfelt welcome to our Class of 2029 Rice parents. One of the great joys of my role is greeting our newest Owls during matriculation, watching them explore a range of academic opportunities and seeing them form new connections through their residential colleges. The students’ energy and enthusiasm breathe new life into campus and remind us why these residential communities are at the heart of the Rice experience.

Amid unprecedented enrollment growth, Rice University will open its 12th residential college, the Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao College — referred to as Chao College — made possible by a generous gift from the Chao family foundation led by Houston business leaders and siblings Dorothy Chao Jenkins, James Chao and Rice Trustee Emeritus Albert Chao.

The sidewalks of Rice University’s campus filled with cheers, chants and signs as the newest Owls arrived for move-in day.

Across the country and globe, Rice students are seizing hands-on roles with real stakes by interning in fields as diverse as offshore energy, arts education, global sports marketing and refugee housing. While their paths vary, many trace their success to a shared source: Rice’s Center for Career Development (CCD).

Our newest Owls are still riding high from an extraordinary O-Week, thanks in part to the hard work of O-Week student directors Jennie Le ’25 and Barakat Ibrahim ’25. Read why they returned to Rice after graduation to welcome the new class and why Rice donors are an essential part of the student experience.
