This fall, we welcomed more than 1,420 new undergraduate students to campus, including 1,352 freshmen — the largest and most selective incoming class in Rice history — and 67 transfer students. It is exciting to welcome new Owls, watch relationships form and experience the energy they bring to campus.

James Turrell’s “Twilight Epiphany” Skyspace, an iconic Rice campus landmark, reopened Sept. 15 with a newly renovated lighting system overseen by the artist’s team. I first visited the Skyspace as a high schooler growing up in Houston, and it is one of my favorite places on Rice's campus!
Located next to Alice Pratt Brown Hall and Asha and Farid Virani Hall, the Skyspace features stunning 40-minute light sequences at sunrise and sunset, seven days a week. LED light dances across the ceiling as it meets the natural light of dawn and dusk, creating a one-of-a-kind experience.
Tell your student to check it out, and be sure to add the Skyspace to your Families Weekend plans!
